December 2023 BC

For our last Breakfast Club of 2024 we jumped on the train down to Cork to discuss the theme of Leaders and Legacies in the beautiful Nano Nagle Place.

Most of us wonder what kind of legacy we will leave behind, but what about those leaders who went before us and whose legacies continue on? And what about the leaders responsible for stewarding those legacies?

To discuss this we were joined by Claire Mac Evilly, CEO of Airfield Estate and John Smith, CEO of Nano Nagle Place. Claire and John reflected on their journeys as leaders responsible for stewarding the projects that were the vision of leaders that went before, and shared their wealth of experience with us in a really enjoyable and enlightening session.

We discussed what it is like to be a Leader in an organisation that already has a huge leadership legacy and how we can honour these legacies while still building our own.

In particular:

  • The challenges of ‘interpreting’ the original vision of people who couldn’t imagine the current world order
  • The opportunities to set legacies on renewed paths such as the Youth Board initiative in Airfield
  • Hire for character not competency
  • #FIDO (F*ck it, drive on) Claires best leadership advice
